What does Merchant Center AI performance tell beauty brands?

Google expanded Merchant Center AI performance insights to Australia, Canada, India and New Zealand. Its current help page says the report is available for English-language queries to Merchant Center accounts in those four countries and the United States (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)).

For a beauty brand, this is not a new label on a conventional search report. It provides a separate view of product visibility in shopping-intent conversations on AI Mode and AI Overviews. The view is useful but incomplete. This article explains where to find it, which signals belong together, and how to turn the data into product-feed decisions without overstating what it proves.

What changed in Merchant Center AI performance insights?

Merchant Center AI performance insights are now available for English-language queries to accounts in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the United States. Google's current help document lists that coverage (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)); Search Engine Roundtable's September 3 report also recorded the expansion in the help document (Schwartz (2026)).

Türkiye is not on that list. A beauty brand based there may see the report only when it has an eligible Merchant Center account in one of the listed countries and works within the English-query scope. If the tab is absent, check country, language and account eligibility rather than treating another market's screenshot as your own performance evidence.

The report addresses product and brand visibility in Merchant Center, not all AI traffic to a website. Use our Search Console AI performance guide to examine the separate site-level measurement layer.

What does the Merchant Center AI performance report measure?

The Merchant Center AI performance report helps a brand read shopping-intent visibility in AI Mode and AI Overviews through share of voice, journey stages, product terms and product attributes. Google's initial product announcement describes the journey as discovery, evaluation and purchase (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)).

  • Share of voice: compares the brand or product's share of relevant AI impressions with a defined competitor set (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)).
  • Journey stages: groups conversations around discovery, evaluation and purchase.
  • Product terms: surfaces product language shoppers use in conversational shopping.
  • Product attributes: exposes sought-after structured details such as colour, style and material.

These four views approach the same problem from different angles. High term frequency paired with low share of voice may indicate a content or product-data gap, but the report does not establish the cause. Product-page detail, stock, price, competition and feed quality still need separate checks.

How should beauty brands read Merchant Center AI product terms?

Beauty brands should read Merchant Center AI product terms as research signals for the benefits, use contexts and comparison language shoppers bring to a product conversation. Google says product-term insights identify popular terms in Search conversations and the brand's share of voice for them (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)).

  • Group terms by product type, use context, finish, texture, colour family, packaging or routine.
  • Flag clusters where high frequency coincides with low share of voice.
  • Match each cluster to relevant products; do not add a benefit to a title or description unless the product genuinely has it.
  • Record the feed fields and product page before editing, then compare the same country, category and period filters afterwards.

If a finish, shade family or use occasion leads in the report, first check whether the product data states it accurately and in a structured form. Do not force query language onto the product; make verified product characteristics easier to match with the language customers actually use.

Which actions should Merchant Center AI product attributes trigger?

Merchant Center AI product attributes should first trigger a consistency audit across the feed and product page. Google says the report identifies popular specifications such as colour, style and material, while an attribute-completeness score helps find products missing those structured fields (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)).

  • Confirm that the attribute highlighted by the report genuinely applies to the product.
  • Check that the Merchant Center feed, product page and structured data do not contradict one another.
  • Complete missing fields by product family instead of generalising from one example to the full catalogue.
  • Ensure images and copy describe the same variant; never fill colour or size gaps by assumption.

This is catalogue-accuracy work before it is advertising copy. Our broader GEO guide covers content and entity visibility; keep the Merchant Center report as a product-data diagnostic layer.

How should Merchant Center AI performance be interpreted?

Merchant Center AI performance should be interpreted as an organic product-discovery signal, not as sales or total AI visibility. Google's help document says current data is limited to Organic AI traffic and excludes paid Ads traffic (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)).

  • Open the report through Merchant Center > Analytics > Products > AI performance (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)).
  • Keep product category, period and country filters fixed when comparing results (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)).
  • Do not rename share of voice as sales share, click-through rate or revenue.
  • Check the effect of feed edits separately in Search Console, site analytics and sales data.
  • Do not treat a short-term movement as causal proof; log seasonal, stock and campaign changes.

A useful reading does not chase one score. It asks whether high demand, low visibility and incomplete product data intersect in the same place. When they do, the next fix becomes specific. When they do not, the report has produced a research question rather than a conclusion.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Merchant Center AI performance report available in Türkiye?

Google's current help page lists eligibility for English-language queries to Merchant Center accounts in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand and the United States (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)). Türkiye is not listed. A multi-market brand may see the tab only in an eligible account and supported query scope, so availability should be checked inside the account.

Is Merchant Center AI share of voice the same as sales share?

No. Share of voice compares the brand or product's relevant AI impressions with impressions across the competitor set defined in Merchant Center (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)). It is not a sales, revenue or conversion-share metric. Evaluate commercial impact separately through site analytics, advertising and sales data.

Does the Merchant Center AI report include paid advertising?

The current report is limited to Organic AI traffic, such as free listings, and does not include paid Ads traffic (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)). Do not attribute a movement in this dashboard directly to Google Ads. Measure paid and organic layers separately, then compare changes over the same dates.

Which area should a beauty brand check first in the report?

Start with product terms where high frequency and low visibility coincide, then inspect structured attributes associated with those terms. Google defines product terms and product attributes as separate insight areas in the report (Google Merchant Center Help (2026)). Next, verify feed, product-page, stock and price consistency before making changes.
